Carlos Santana : Slams Georgia And Arizona for Immigration Laws
Last night, Carlos Santana shocked the crowd while at baseball’s annual Civil Rights Game when he harshly criticized Georgia and Arizona for their new immigration laws.Santana was at baseball’s annual Civil Rights Game to receive the Beacon of Change Award before the Braves-Phillies game when told the crowd, “I represent the human race, the people of Arizona and the people of Atlanta, Georgia, you should be ashamed of yourselves.”
And he wasn’t done.
According to Starpulse, speaking at a news conference after the ceremony, he added, “It’s an anti-American law… It’s a cruel law, actually. This is about fear. Stop shucking and jiving. People are afraid we’re going to steal your job. No we aren’t. You’re not going to change sheets and clean toilets. This is the United States. This is the land of the free. If people want the immigration laws to keep passing, then everybody should get out and leave the American Indians here.”
According to The Daily Swarm, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal on Friday signed a bill that cracks down on illegal immigration in the state. The bill requires many employers to check the immigration status of new hires and authorizes law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of some suspects.
Arizona’s immigration legislation caused quite a bit of controversy and celebrity outcry including Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga, who wrote a song about it called “Americano.” The new legislation states that law enforcement officers can check on immigration status of anyone after a lawful stop, arrest, or detention for “any other law or ordinance of a county, city, or town, or this state” if they have “reasonable suspicion” that the person is an illegal.
