Steel Force roller coaster
What makes it great: The 5,600 feet of the Steel Force makes it the longest roller coaster on the East Coast. On opening day this year, Dorney Park unveiled its newly renovated kids' park, inspired by a world-famous beagle.
The Beast roller coaster
What makes it great: Spread out over 35 acres, the Beast is the world's longest wooden roller coaster and has given birth to another popular coaster. In the 2011 season, Kings Island Theme Park will debut a new ride that will spin people 30 stories above the park.
Great Bear roller coaster
What makes it great: Named for its loud roar, the Great Bear was the first inverted-loop roller coaster in Pennsylvania. While at Hersheypark, don't miss the chocolate tour and tasting at Hershey's Chocolate World.
Desperado roller coaster

What makes it great: At 195 feet high, Alpengeist reaches a top speed of 65 mph, making it the tallest and fastest full-circuit inverted roller coaster in the world. Stop off at Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve while at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
Goliath roller coaster
What makes it great: When Goliath first opened, its 255-foot drop was the fastest opening drop of all of the closed-circuit coasters. Six Flags Magic Mountain will break the world record for the most roller coasters in one park with its 18th when it debuts this season.
Montu roller coaster
What makes it great: Montu holds the record for the most inversions on an inverted roller coaster. While at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, take a ride on the Serengeti Express, a replica steam train.
Space Mountain roller coaster
