Best Beaches in Canada
Best Beaches in Canada. Tofino, B.C. has been named winner of travel website TripAdvisor's 'Best Beach in Canada' 2011 Traveller's Choice Destination Award. The year-round destination on the west coast of Vancouver Island beat out nine of Canada's premier coastal waterfronts, including P.E.I.'s Cavendish Beach, the picturesque setting of the best-selling novel 'Anne of Green Gables".

Miles of pristine beaches and a relatively uncrowded atmosphere attract everyone from kayakers to surfers, wave watchers to sport fishers.

"The Travellers' Choice Destination Award winners were determined based purely on the opinions and the conversation on our website," said Jim Brody, TripAdvisor's senior international sales manager in a Marketwire story.

"According to a recent TripAdvisor survey of more than 2,100 U.S. respondents, 68 per cent are planning a beach vacation in 2011 with 10 per cent of those travellers choosing west coast North American destinations."

Tofino will also feature its prowess in the kitchen at the upcoming Feast!, a culinary event featuring local and acclaimed visiting chefs preparing some of the region's best seafood.

With everything the beaches have to offer, locals are thrilled with the TripAdvisor award recognition, but they can't say they're surprised.

"We are delighted to be recognized with this prestigious TripAdvisor award," said executive director of Tourism Tofino Sharon Lingenfelter in the story. "All you have to do is turn your feet loose on any of our pristine beaches, with their wide expanse of sand, tide pools, and rolling waves - in any weather - to understand why it's no surprise to locals why Tofino was voted number one."
